Subtle Internet Advertising
Usually, there is nothing more irksome than perusing the internet and having twelve different popups show up aiming to sell you on something. What’s even worse is that it becomes not only screen pollution but sound pollution; these ads come up and start telling you, you’ve “won,” or “click here now!” I do not want to be troubled with salesmen, especially in the comfort of my own home. Internet advertising seems only like a curse when you see only this aspect, and as much as I would like to condemn it as only an annoyance, internet advertising is a very effective sales tool and when done correctly, is nothing like the plague of popups.
Internet advertising can make or break just about any sales pitch; it can totally break a sale when the product or idea is being sold through an annoying popup at, but efficient internet advertising can be a powerful and effective tool.
Most of the time, you are seeing well done internet advertisements without even realizing that your being sold something. Take Facebook, for example, every time you’re connected on there are a collection of sponsors on the right hand side, but they are in the same format as everything else on Facebook; you can even “like” the page, Facebook style, and extend the word through your news feed about this idea or product you “liked” while browsing a friends page.
Youtube.com is another website that took advantage of efficient internet advertising. Youtube is currently airing little advertisements prior to playing their videos to show their audience certain new products and concepts. The video ads, like Facebook ads, are in Youtube’s format, they don’t take up much time, and afterwards, you still get the video you wanted to see. A thirty second clip seems like a fair tradeoff for being able to listen to your favorite song or watch a movie clip.
subtle internet advertising cannot be denounced because its popup counter parts are simply irksome. Internet advertising is a very big part of an expanding marketing industry. It will thwart companies who choose annoying advertisements versus companies who subtlety advertise which becomes catalyst for success when it is done correctly. All it takes is a knowledge of the difference between advertisements that blend well and ads that stick out like a sore thumb. Success in internet advertising is in blending.
